The people in our (new) neighbourhood

As you may know, Jump now has a second pad to call home – it’s just over the Second Narrows Bridge in North Vancouver. One of the great things about moving to a new location is that we not only get to meet new people, but we also get to work with people we know and love. As we’ve been setting up our new space, we’ve been calling up some of our old (and new) friends and asking them for their help and expertise to get us up and running. Robert’s one of those people. He’s our Mortgage Development Manager from Vancity. Now, since Jump is all about setting the foundation for an active life, we’re always interested in how our friends and colleagues stay active, and what kind of sports they like to play. When we asked Robert, he told us that he grew up in Vancouver (there are a few Vancouverites who were actually born here), played soccer and baseball as a kid, and still spends time at the beach. Since we also think that ice cream is a pretty important thing, we wanted to know Robert’s thoughts on the matter. We have it on good authority that his favourite ice cream flavour is chocolate.

If you’ve ever gone through a renovation you’ll know that keeping an eye on what you’re spending is a big component. For that we have Leona, our bookkeeper. Thankfully Leona works with Jump all the time, keeping us up to date with our bill payments (and making sure all of our coaches get paid!). Leona grew up in Coquitlam and, like Robert, played soccer and baseball as a kid. Her personal mantra is “Live for today but save a little for tomorrow.” Given the choice, she would choose vanilla ice cream, but if she’s feeling devilish, she’s been know to go for a chili chocolate. Say no more!

Michael is our marketing guy and has been pretty busy with the North Van project. He grew up in England and has tried his hand at a few sports including cricket, football (soccer in our world) and track, but he likes tennis and skiing the most. The last time he had ice cream (which was more recently than he’ll admit) he opted for black cherry. His mantra is “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” Michael declined to provide a photograph claiming that photographers “have it out for me.” We disagree.

Last, but certainly not least, is Matt Thomas, leasing agent extraordinaire. Matt’s a West Van kid and loves the Gulf Islands (who doesn’t?). He’s also very active in soccer, baseball, swimming, skiing AND snowboarding. Just listening to him makes us tired. Thailand is Matt’s destination of choice, which fits very well with his mantra, “Work to live, not live to work.” Hey Matt, let us know when you go to Thailand again and we’ll hide in your suitcase.

We’ll bring you more introductions to the North Van crew as our series on the construction continues. Oh, and if you didn’t know, registration for September classes is now open. Our goal is to provide the same great classes at both our locations – just pick the place that’s best for you. But there’s no reason why you can’t try both!

Stay tuned for updates on the construction in North Vancouver...
