COUNT DOWN TO FALL PHYSICAL LITERACY

COUNTDOWN TO FALL TERM - A FALL OF PHYSICAL LITERACY

There is something exciting about starting a new term and fostering a great physical literacy journey for all of our little athletes in the gym. If this is your first term at Jump or if you have been with us for years we love the chance to foster a safe and fun environment for developing skills and letting your child's confidence soar!

To share our excitement for Fall Term with all of our Jump families we are launching a COUNTDOWN TO FALL GIVEAWAY.

Starting Sunday, August 11th - and continuing each Sunday until the 1st of September- we will be giving away a prize. Each one has been hand selected and approved by Jump coaches as a great tool to develop physical literacy.
Keep reading to find out more about the prizes we are giving away (and tools we just love to use to help with children’s development.)

PHYSICAL LITERACY TOOLS WE LOVE

We have been up to a super fun project of curating items that not we not only think are super engaging and lots of fun, but that can be used to help promote development and physical literacy in children. Items both you and your children will to love!

Shaker Eggs

We are starting off with some of the cutest things EVER. If you have set foot into our gym, you know the power of a good shaker egg. They fit perfectly into little hands, make a great rhythmic sound and are worth exploring under and over objects to get to. (Baby bribery!)

We found the cutest set for you to bring the shakey goodness home!

This set (which is super affordable) combines bright colours, fun animal shapes and different musical sounds to truly be a must have!

The set comes with three shakers, an owl, hedgehog and fox. Each different animal makes a different sound and is super easy to hold in little hands! The recommended age for them is 3 months plus.

WHY WE LOVE THEM

  • Easy to grip onto, hold, and carry

  • Unique and interesting musical sounds

  • Great for encouraging movement

WAYS TO USE THEM TO PROMOTE PHYSICAL LITERACY

  • Climbing and movement exploration

    • Use them to encourage over and under object movement, whether that is encouraging them to climb up on the couch at home, an incline at the gym, or just across the floor to you! They are a fun motivation to help promote development.

  • Grip strength

    • These eggs are the perfect size to fit into tiny hands, encouraging them to hold on to shake, they are working on gripping these objects and strengthening the muscles that go along with it.

  • Spacial awareness

    • When used in getting a child to move under an object (tunnel, hula hoop, ect.) These toys are worth chasing after, encouraging children to explore places they might not have been interested in - crawling through or under helps children, who are at the developmental level, to start exploring their spacial awareness and how they fit compared to other spaces.

GAMES TO PLAY

  • Egg hunt! (Hidden under or on top of objects)

Who doesn't love a good egg hunt (it’s not us, we love them). This game of object hide and go seek is super easy to set up anywhere, a great game to play at home, at a park, in a field, or wherever else you can think of! We’ve got some insight on how to incorporate development and physical literacy into your game!

  • OBJECT PERMANENCE: Hiding the eggs underneath objects, blankets, rocks, ect - we love hiding them under our cones in the gym!

Bumpy Balls

Bumpy balls are Coach Bobby’s #1 ball of choice! These highly rated balls come in two sizes, small and large. These balls are soft, feather-light balls that have “bumps” that provide great tactical effects feedback (they are latex free). Since they are so lightweight it makes them perfect for 2-4 year olds learning to throw and develop their aim, without fear of hurting themselves or others! Again, because of their light weight and size it makes them a great choice for learning to bounce a ball. Learning to play catch? Great - start with rolling the ball back and forth, having the child engaged, introducing the pass and catch language and helping them figure out to put their hands out in front of them- then we can pass and catch with these super light balls!

WHY WE LOVE THEM

  • Super fun and engaging, bright colours and texture

  • Large, soft, and squishy - easy to catch!

  • Since it is so soft, it makes it easy for little hands to grip onto, hold, and carry!

WAYS TO USE THEM TO PROMOTE PHYSICAL LITERACY

  • Hand eye coordination

  • Rolling them back and forth with a parent, sibling, or friend to work on eye hand coordination and passing. Rolling the ball up an incline and tracking it as it comes back to them so they are able to catch. The ball is big and light and easy to catch so it makes a great introduction to catching, and while we are still learning it is super soft so harm comes to nothing (your child, household items, or the partner in the game of catch)

  • Bounce and catches, these balls are SUPER BOUNCY and make a great tool for working even more on our eye hand coordination and catching for those at higher development levels.

You can find these for sale on site at both of our Jump Locations!

FUBBLES - NO SPILL BUBBLES

FUBBLES are the greatest contribution to the bubble industry- This fun coloured bubble container promises “No-spill”, even when tipped completely upside down, we’ve tested it for years in the gym and it works!

Bubbles are not only LOVED by children everywhere, but can be used as a great tool to help them and their development.

WHY WE LOVE THEM

  • No Mess!

  • Easy to take anywhere, the beach, park, and home!

  • Super engaging and fun

WAYS TO USE THEM TO PROMOTE PHYSICAL LITERACY

  • Visual Tracking Skills

    • Tracking, following, focusing, converging and diverging skills are skills that kids are not born with, but learn over time. Since bubbles are so eye catching they are a great way to capture a little ones attention for them to start using their eyes and developing these skills.

    • Motivation to Move

      • There is a certain determination in finding and catching bubbles that can be very motivating in getting children to move.

    • Fine Motor Development

      • Once your child can grasp, they are going to want to hold the wand, which can usually be very messy ( and that’s why we love the Fubbles for containing that mess!) The act of taking out the wand and placing it back in helps develop fine motor skills.

    • Hand Eye Coordination

      • Following and tracking these bubbles around, the hunt of these bubbles and the act of popping them helps children figure out their coordination.
